Schmetterlinghaus is a big greenhouse with trees and plants and many exotic butterflies located right by Karls Platz U-bahn station. It is a really beautiful atmosphere, very humid but a great experience. The butterflies are all around and have very vibrant colours, they are much larger than an average butterfly, you can also see a lot of cocoons. They have a big waterfall in the middle of it which have goldfish in the pond. The have a bridge made out of a tree and you can look down at the waterfall and all the butterflies flying around. It´s not so big but it´s a perfect size for the butterflies. You really feel like you are in a rainforest. Entrance is €5.50 for an adult and €3 for a child. Outside the butterfly house there is a huge garden area which you can sit out in the sun and have your lunch and enjoy the sunshine and there is a cafe next to it. It´s def worth the visit.

For me it was a nice change comparing to the last day trip to Natural History Museum in Vienna, where I admired hundreds of unfortunatelly dead and pinned butterflies and other insects.

Near National Bibliothek you can find a place to have maybe one-in-a-lifetime chance to see exotic butterflies - some of them ar as big as your hand.

You are not allowed to catch them but you can make photos of them. It is a perfect place for children but I forget that going into a greenhouse in summer heat isn't really a good idea. The fact that disappointed me was that I noticed only about 5 species of butterflies.
