Schilling Hostel El Calafate Reviews
Wonderful staff and great location Nov 19, 2014
Schilling hostel is one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in!
It's located close to the bus terminal, only a minute or two walking. About the same distance from a big supermarket and one end of the main street in El Calafate.
The place is so well decorated, like a big comfy mountain house. Big spacious common room and lobby, where you can relax, drink free coffee all day, read travel books on the region and the world. They also have a garden in the back, and one on the side of the main house. Lovely to relax after a long day of hiking.
Staff is simply amazing, from the owners to all the other people helping them. Everybody was so nice, welcoming, offering lots of information on the town and region, help with anything and everything. They book tours, taxis, transfer to the airport.
I stayed in dorm room, but had a single bed. Ensuite bathroom is big, clean, with shower and hot water. This room is in a separate house, attached to the main building, and there's a small well equipped kitchen for guest use. The garden just in front was lovely too.
Free breakfast is basic, with coffee and some pastry, but for small amount you can have eggs or pancakes. I think it's a good deal.
They also have a restaurant, but it was always empty, as its not on a busy street and people can't just walk by it.
Free WiFi was working great for me, in the room as well as the lobby.
This is one of those places that I will never forget, mainly for their hospitality. It truly felt like home.
I highly recommend it, and would love to go back some day.

Schilling Hostel Patagonica Nov 26, 2013
Owned an operated by Cecilia, Marcelo, and their son this is a family run accommodation and they make you feel at home. They are busy people running the hostel but always willing to try and help with planning excursions or answering questions.
They have 20 or 21 rooms, singles, doubles, and triples, all with private bathroom and breakfast included in the rate. They have a garden full of colors and scents of flowers where you can relax after a day of trekking. The common areas are very cozy overall its a beautiful place.
They have an onsite restaurant with good food and a small bar. They had the best craft beer in all of Argentina. Gülmen Porter Negro...delicious. They have 2 or 3 other styles of Gülmen also. It's definitely not a party hostel but still social.
Free wifi throughout the hostel but no community computer as of yet. They said they are working on that. So bring a smart phone or tablet and you'll be fine.
Location is excellent too. A little more than a block from the east end of the main st.
This was my favorite accommodation in all of Argentina. The only con was that I had two single beds instead of one double and the beds are narrow but comfy. I like a big bed. I'll let it slide. :)
