These are the largest waterfalls in europe in terms of the volume of water. Its in a very scenic location, very well connected by train. A must see. The easiest way is to take a train to the schaffhausen station. Regular trains available from Basel SBB and Zurich. From Schaffhausen station you can either take a bus or a local sbahn to rhine falls station. Its 2 min walk from this station. There is a well defined walk around the fall which take 2 hrs, but it is well worth the walk. It gives you the view of the falls from different vantage points and ends with a stroll along the river bank. Now with the fall colours in full bloom, its a awesometime to visit this place.
Schaffhausen is a big town so food and accomodation is not a problem. There is a youth hostel run by HI as well.

We had a slow walk down the Rhine to the Rheinfall, the largest waterfall in Europe. It is only 23m high but the width and speed of the water give it an impressive water flow. It was such a pleasure to be able to walk hand-in-hand down a wooded pathway in the Swiss mountains. We arrived… The Rhine Falls

Took just 45 minutes to get here from Zurich, and just before we got into town went past the Rheinfallen Waterfall, which had a nice looking bridge jsut above it. I then had just 55 minutes to wait on my connection to Stuttgart. Still, as always, my curiosity about places got the better of me and I decided I would go out and have… Not A Sight I See Every Day :-)
