A hotel in the middle of Oslo Jul 03, 2008

I stayed at the hotel for 1 night in June 2003 and I stayed at room 306.

Location
The location of the hotel is great. First of all it is located near the airport express train (Flytoget) station at Nasjonalteateret. It is also located just a few minutes from the main street in Oslo (Karl Johan), the Royal Palace and Aker brygge (the waterfront area). There is also a tram line in the street next to the hotel so it should be easy to get around. The lobby is pretty standard but it was cool to see that they have two PCs by the front desk which was hooked up to the internet and it was free of charge using it. I think they must be running broadband by the way because the internet access was pretty fast. There is a bar and a restaurant in the lobby area. We had lunch in the restaurant a couple of day and the food was pretty good. We also went to the bar at night and it was very, very quiet. After all it was a day in the middle of the week.

The room
The room I had was nice. The floor in the room was a wooden parquet floor and it had yellow painted walls. In the room I found a single bed, a wardrobe with about 5 hangers, a color TV with lots of different channels (CNN, BBC, Discovery, pay TV and so on), a desk with a typical chair and two softer chairs with a small table between them. The TV is mounted on the wall so you can watch it when sitting in the chairs or while you are in bed. There was a small minibar in the room with drinks (soft drinks and beer/wine) and chocolates. If you need to iron your clothes I guess that is not a problem because and iron and an ironing board is mounted on the wall. The hotel also has a laundry service by the way. And it was a non smoking room and I enjoy that :-)

The bathroom had white tiles and it had a bathtub with the possibility of taking a shower. A glass plate was mounted on the bathtub to prevent water from splashing everywhere when taking a shower. I'm not sure that this solution is the best by the way. Even if the pressure if the shower wasnt that great I still managed to splash quite a lot of water on the floor. There were no little shampoo bottles by the way. Instead the hotel has gone over to wall mounted containers of hand soap and shampoo/shower gel. I guess it makes sense because it creates less trash and the hotel probably save money on this. And there was of course the standard hair dryer mounted on the wall.

Breakfast
Breakfasts at Norwegian hotels are not that exciting. The only hot stuff they had when I was there was scrambled eggs, boiled egg and sausages. But you had your normal selection of fresh bread, different kinds of jam, cheese (both the brown goat cheese and the typical white cheese), ham, honey and so on. And there was also a selection of cereal of course. They also had juice, different kinds of milk and coffee/tea.Fitness room and sauna I stopped by the fitness room and the sauna by the way. I was not very impressed with the exercise room at all. They had a stationary bike, one bench and one gadget for lifting some weights. So I think that I have to recommend that you get your exercise from doing sightseeing on foot around town :-)

Conclusion A fairly standard hotel but with a pretty good location in the middle of Oslo.
