Scandic Gdansk Reviews
Ignorant Staff Jul 21, 2015
Hotel located close to train station, and bus station beside it, which as we planned to travel a bit out of Gdansk was why we chose it. 50-60 Zly (double at weekends) taxi fare from airport.
Didn't have to wait long to check in, and the girl seemed good enough and offered Scandic Club, or something like that, which could be used right away, and gave a list of benefits, which turned out to be a load of bollocks.
Room was clean, and on the small side of standard, but did have a fridge and a kettle, and a TV that was never on so don't know what channels it had. Bathroom, with shower, was compact, but good enough for a few days there.
The really bad, and inexcusable, part of the stay was at the bar on the first night, where having been given the pitch by the girl at the check in, we ordered a couple of beers and as instructed told her it was Scandic Club expecting the promised discount. Left us standing at the bar and went to check, and said it wasn't anything like we were told and, basically no use to us at all.
All through this though she was quite clearly discussing it, in Polish, with people at the bar who were enjoying a good laugh about it, and carried on even though it was quite clear we were aware of what she was doing . Other than the first night, any time we got back to the hotel, which wasn't ridiculously late, the bar was all closed up, but we wouldn't have gone back anyway, and it left a very negative impression of the hotel and there was no other interaction with any of the hotel staff that improved that during our stay.
Reasonable walking distance to the Old Town, whichever route you take. There are plenty shops nearby, and arcade beside it, shops in the underpass going to the rail and bus station stations, and there is a tourist information in the in the underpass as well. Nearest supermarket is on the corner a couple of blocks down the main road towards the Old Town.
Overall the place is alright as a place to put your head down for a sleep, but I wouldn't stay there again solely beacause of the staff.
