Just came back from Thailand and got severely ripped off because I didn't do enough homework.
Remember to bargain for everything. Even if you are at a TAT travel agent. These Thai people see foreigners as a HUGE dollar sign and will rob you blind if you let them. Consult AT LEAST 3 different sources when you are going to buy something, anything. You'll either hear the same price 3 times over or you'll have 3 completely different prices in which case keep asking. If you are tired of bargaining head to the big dept stores where everything is already priced. (after discounts) Always use the Taxi meters if you are unsure of the price a ride will cost. The taxis know to rip you off and if they say no to the meter you know that you made the right decision to get another cabbie. And always make sure the cabbie knows where you want to go and negotiate a price before jumping in a cab. Otherwise the next thing you know you'll be paying 5 bucks for a 100 metre cab ride. And lastly, Have a good time. |
