Beautiful Studio apartment right at the old town Sep 01, 2014
We booked this apartment through booking.com on the day we arrive in Dubrovnik –since we could not find a place to stay near the old town. It is supposedly low season, unfortunately most of places near the old town square was fully booked when we arrived there in the afternoon and we just walk randomly checking the available hotel or apartment, and the weather was not helping either, it was rain and by late afternoon the whole old town was flooding and there were water everywhere.
So, it was not easy to find the place on our own. We head to the restaurant who has free internet access and had lunch and search for a hotel. Once we booked the hotel, we asked the restaurant staff to call the hotel and if it is possible for the owner of the apartment to meet us in the restaurant where we were having lunch and then go to the apartment. He arrived shortly in the restaurant after the agreed time, and he was such a friendly and helpful owner and speak very good English. He brings extra umbrella for us and carry my suite case to his place.
The apartment is right at the old town, not far from the restaurant we were having lunch, and our room located at the top floor of the building, I do not remember either it was fourth or fifth floor, since there were no elevator and we have to climb the stairs up to the room. It was not that bad, quite interesting to pass several pictures hanging on the wall and good exercise after those heavy lunch.
The studio apartment he has was really beautiful, very clean and spacious with really good view toward the old town especially the many church tower there.
The apartment size is 51sqm with one queen size bedroom with very comfortable mattress, a big sofa in the living room with flat screen television, free wireless internet access with password code written near the television, fully equip kitchen and free tea included, and very nice and modern bathroom with hot and cold shower which much appreciated especially after drenched under the rain (even when using umbrella), and also hair dryer readily available to dry the wet clothes and shoes after thrashing the flood. It also has an air condition which help dry the clothes when I turn it on and also a cupboard near the door. I could rate it similar with four stars hotel amenities – minus the bathrobe and slipper.
Plenty of restaurants, bar, café, shops, etc, next door since the place is really in the old town not far from the church. The sights of Dubrovnik old town is basically under your feet. It cost €55 per night for two people without breakfast.
We did not sign any registration form or show our passport when we arrive in the apartment, basically we just give the owner cash money and tell him the time we check out the next morning and he advised to leave the key inside the apartment and just go.

A place in the center with a view of the center Sep 01, 2014
We arrived in Dubrovnik intending to just find a room or apartment for rent around the center where we were dropped off by the local bus. But the weather was really bad this day in Dubrovnik so we had to find a refuge from the rain in a restaurant. Despite the fact we spend a lot of time eating lunch the rain didn’t seem to want to stop. Occasionally the rain was slightly less heavy just to reappear once again with renewed force. So the idea of trying to find a place by wondering around the old town area wasn’t really an option.
Instead we found the apartment from the internet and then finished the lunch - but the rain never stopped so we decided to try to call the man managing the apartment to get him to pick us up so we wouldn’t get lost. The apartment has a great location and it is pretty easy to find - but when you have rain like the rain you had back when Noah learned shipbuilding then you seriously don’t want to waste any time searching for the right street to turn right to get to the apartment.
We walk into the old town and it is just a short walk from where we were having lunch just outside the wall of the city. But it is raining like crazy and we are getting soaked in no time walking to the apartment. After about five minutes walk we turn left up a small narrow street which is the location of our studio apartment. We get inside and walk up to the top of the building at the fourth floor - there is no elevator so you have to carry your bags to the top and furthermore there are no cars going into the old town so you actually have to carry your own luggage from the gate to the town. For us it wasn’t much of a problem since we were on a fairly quick trip and were travelling pretty light.
The apartment is a studio - so basically it is just one big room which is furnished with a bed and a sofa with a little table. There is also a kitchen section where you can cook if you dare walk outside in the rain and buy food - we opted for just go to restaurants which are plentiful in the old town. Since we are on the top floor there is actually a bit of a view out over the old town which I am sure will not be the case for the apartments on lower floors. It looks like the owner lives on the third floor and have a few studios on the top floor which might previously have been used as a storage area for the people living in the apartments further down.
The apartment is equipped with pretty much all you like from utensils to television and the bathroom is well supplied so they don’t have to drop by frequently if there are guest staying for a couple of days. One thing I really appreciated was the hairdryer which was very essential when you arrive in the rain and your luggage has gotten soaked and you shoes are wet - and pretty much anything around you are wet. The hairdryer is a bit strange - it works ok for a while - but after having been used for maybe 20-30 minutes it decides it has gotten too hot and need a break - this happened a couple of times and was a bit annoying since the only thing there was to do was just leave the hairdryer for 20 minutes to cool down before you could continue the high priority job of drying your cloths.
