Scafell Pike Wasdale Head Reviews
England's highest Nov 25, 2010
England's highest - so what? - do I hear you saying with much laughter? Well we do know that our highest does not compare with much of Europe for height, let alone Andes or Himalayas.
However it's really a very scenic mountain and sufficiently central in the Lake District to make it accessible from numerous places, often taking in other peaks en route. However it is a long way to reach it from anywhere other than Scafell Pike, although there is no problem about getting it in on a day's walk.
The website gives routes from Eskdale, Langdale and Borrowdale as well - and I have been from the top of Hardknott Pass (review).
Expert writers on the Lake District consider it our finest mountain as well as our highest. Scafell is a separate peak, only a little lower. The two are separated by the pass of Lord's Rake with very steep ascents on both sides.
