Savusavu Overview

Savusavu has changed very little in th past 30 years or so.It has has only one main street that is a hub of activity for the southeastern portion of Vanua Levu, Fiji’s second largest island.

The main street has a supermarket, butcher, several grocerystores, hardware stores, etc as well as a busy open-air vegetable market, bus and taxi stand are located in the center of town. Savusavu has a library, a full service post office, local and overseas couriers, 3 major banks, customs & immigration offices and a regional hospital.
Just a short walk up the hill from town is the site of Savusavu’s geothermal hot springs where Many local women use the bubbling springs for cooking and an afternoon visit is worthwhile to see the pots of root crops steaming atop the springs. Heading west down Main Street toward the government wharf is the Planter’s Club. Founded by the early coconut plantation owners and their families, the Planter’s Club, is still a center for social activity today.
