Now on to Savannah for some real Historic homes. One different kind of place first though. I had to stop and get a picture or two of the storage tank in southern Savannah that is painted to resemble the earth. Yep, a large round tank painted to look just like it. Even the mail box!! Savannah has so many great old homes and churches it was impossible to get all of them on film. No place to park or stop, and even if we had taken a tour ride, the huge trees cover so much of the squares and fron...

Here we are in Savannah! Got here about an hour ago, and I'm sitting in my hotel room checking e-mail, writing this blog, and watching General Hospital. I NEED to jump in the shower and head over to the theatre, as we are only here one night, but I also need a moment to decompress after the bus ride. Savannah is old and seems pretty beautiful. I hope I get a better feel for that when I take the short little walk to the venue. Tomorrow morning, we hop on the bus again and head to Greenville,...

We headed out of Beaufort by way of Hwy 170 (Robert Smalls Parkway/Okatie Hwy) which took us over the Broad River.  We then took Hwy 278 westward until we hit I-95.  Why are areas around airports so difficult to navigate?  It took me at least an hour to find our hotel...which aggravated me because I wanted to have as much time possible to see Savannah.  Our accommodations in the Savannah area was the Days Inn Savannah Airport.  The surroundings were not picturesque bu...

After an interesting night with lots of furry visitors we crawled out of bed pretty late. If you call 9 am late. Today we were planning on going to Savannah!!! After a delicious southern breakfast we headed out. Nice change was that neither of us had to drive because Eric (husband of my friend's friend) was driving. Of course we had one of the dogs with us. lol Don't worry! It was a small one. Smaller then some of those cats. hahaha. After a short ride we got to Savannah, a beautiful city wit...

Bonaventure Cemetery is a historical landmark in Savannah because it's the final resting place for many of Savannah's most famous residents.  It is hauntingly beautiful with spanish moss hanging from the trees and unique headstones.  The cemetery became well known thru the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil", in which John Cusack and Kevin Spacey were witness to plenty of voodoo in th "garden".  This is a must-see if you're coming to Savannah.

On our way from the hotel to the Savannah historic district, we noticed a HUGE globe in a run down area of a concrete jungle. Now we had a heard a lot about Savannah's trippy culture, but this was definitely unexpected. Turns out it's a water tower. Who would've thought? Once we finally arrived in the historic district, we parked near the riverfront and walked along River Street. Savannah's known for its historic preservation efforts, and the Riverfront Plaza and Factory Walk include...

Rehearsal day and tours of the city on foot

I don't know why, but I've always dismissed Savannah as being sort of 'second rate' to other cities like St. Augustine, Charleston, Williamsburg, Boston, etc.  And I've been there literally hundreds of times but never gave the city a chance to show what it had to offer from both a historical perspective and as a modern, metropolitan city. We went to Savannah this time around to attend the wedding of our good friends Jana and Gary.  Everyone in the wedding party was staying ove...

Wormsloe Historic Site

On two different occasions I visited Wormsloe.  It was the site of a plantation and fort on the Skidaway River.  The highlight is, of course, the avenue of beautiful moss-draped Live Oak trees which brings to life any romantic vision of a southern plantation.  There is not a lot to do here, but there is a 1-mile trail where you can view both the tabby ruins (tabby is what a lot of old buildings in the area were made of, a shell-filled concrete mixture) and view the saltmarshes ...

Exploring Savannahs Southern Charm
posted by:

Over the weekend, my BFF and I took a trip to Savannah, Georgia, to make our pilgrimage to the Marc Jacobs store. He must have decided to place the store there right before his stint in rehab because I have no idea why the hell anyone would want to put a store in Savannah. The city is absolutely lovely in a historical sense, but it’s not exactly prime location for an upscale clothing store. Sure, you can purchase your Seven jeans at the local sorority girls venue, but you’ve still got to ...
