Classy but affordable Oct 26, 2010
Wow! I cannot believe how wonderful the breakfast buffet is here. I expected it to be nice, but I was pleasantly surprised how good everything tasted and how nicely everything was laid out. Sarkies Corner is attached to the Eastern and Oriental Hotel (E&O) but is, of course, open to non-staying guests as well. This is a classy place and a smart casual dress code is required. I got in with jeans and a polo shirt. However, for the quality of the food and experience, the cost of RM25 was quite reasonable. The staff is friendly, quick, and speaks good English. They were even able to answer a few questions about the history of the building.

Tea or coffee is served in your own pot at your table and a range of juices and milk is available. There is a good selection of pastries, breads, cereals, and cheeses. The hot foods are split between two tables, one with Malaysian foods (noodle and rice dishes, etc.), and the other with Western foods (sausages, potatoes, salmon, etc.). There is also an omelet bar, a waffle bar, and a laksa bar, where chefs prepare these dishes to your specific tastes. You have the option of eating inside the restaurant or outside on the verandah, where you get unobstructed views of the ocean, islands offshore, and even Gurney Drive down the coast. A range of birds and even iguanas patrol the area just in front of the verandah, where a nice garden adds color to the atmosphere. I have no plans at the moment to come back to Penang, but when I do return, this will be on my itinerary from now on. Highly recommended.
