Sardar Patel National Museum
Sardar Patel National Museum Ahmedabad Reviews
Great pictures and politics Feb 02, 2011
Sardar Patel was the deputy prime minister of India and had a key role in India’s political past when it was freed from British rule and established itself as a self-governing democracy. This museum is a national monument that honours “India’s great son”.
The museum is housed in a very impressive governor’s building, and just driving up there feels like a very grand affair. The entrance to the museum is a let down in comparison, as it is located towards the left of the building like some tradesman’s entrance. Once inside, you are faced with a comprehensive set of pictures from the deputy prime minister’s life.
Although the praise from contemporary leaders was rather lavish and laudatory, his influential role in India’s struggle for independence was self-evident. I automatically think of Gandhi whenever I think about that period of Indian history, but through museums such as this , it is possible to understand the wider political context that Gandhi fought in.
Worth visiting if you are interested in Indian politics!
