Sapporo Brewery Reviews
Sapporo Brewery Jul 02, 2009
Sapporo is known for one thing more than any other - that is beer. The home of the first beer brewery in Japan is in Sapporo. The first brewery was founded in 1876. The first brew master got his education at the leading brewery in Berlin and took this knowledge of brewing with him to Japan making the first quality beer ever in Japan.
Today you will find a small museum a bit east of the main station in Sapporo. In the same area you’ll also find a few beer gardens where you can sample the products of the brewery in greater detail if you like. The museum itself is located in the old brewery which has long ago been moved to a more modern facility outside of the central city.
There are three stories in the old brewery building with the museum on the two top floors. The exhibition itself is not very interesting unless you know Japanese. And if you have been to some old traditional European you will not be impressed by this one. To be honest the main attraction of the brewery is found in the tasting bar - where you can sample the beers of the brewery at very reasonable prices. A regular class of beer would be 200 yen or you can buy a sampling set of three different beers for 400 yen - which is about half the price you would pay in a regular bar. Just keep in mind the museum is closing early so you can’t use it for a cheap night out.
