An absolute gem Feb 18, 2013
The Sapphire Lounge is an absolute gem of a place, whether you want to sit back and chill with a cocktail in the afternoon, enjoy tapas, share afternoon tea with the girls or spend the evening in a sophisticated bar.

My first experience of the Sapphire Lounge was after an afternoon shopping with the girls. We had already dined earlier in the afternoon but were looking for somewhere to have drinks before heading off home. My friend had mentioned that she had come across a wonderful bar on Bold Street a couple of weeks prior to our meet up - problem was she was not sure where it was due to it being the early hours of the morning after a family birthday celebration. After walking the length of Bold Street (towards the 'bombed out' church) we finally found this amazing place.

Upon walking through the door you are transported back to the era of the roaring 1920's. The lounge area is beautifully decorated with plush furnishings, floor to ceiling art deco mirrors and the most amazing chandeliers. Additionally all the staff are dressed in traditional 1920's costumes, which all adds to the atmosphere.

The staff are amazing, Andrea was our waitress for the afternoon and she greeted us as soon as we walked through the door with a wonderful smile. She went through the extensive cocktail menu with us before leaving us for a moment to decide on what we were going to order - so many choices, eventually we decided on the Mojitos. The attention to detail is exquisite, our Mojitos came served in cut crystal glasses, and I have to admit this was probably the best Mojito I have ever had - so good in fact that we ordered another round!!!

Hidden Gem number two (Dillinger's)was found when we had to use the rest rooms downstairs - in the true style of the 1920's prohibition era we came across a bookcase fixed to one of the walls. Curious to know what exactly lay behind this bookcase, on our return to the lounge upstairs we asked Andrea as to whether we could have a peek. We were not disappointed, again the attention to detail is so authentic even down to the china tea pots that their 'Dillinger's' punch is served in. Dillinger's is open on an evening and in addition to this Cocktail Master Classes are available to book as is the whole of the room for private functions. We were so impressed by this that my friend and I are considering hiring this out for a joint birthday celebration next year =)

Vist number two - 18 February 2013

After the success of our previous visit for cocktails us three girls decided that we had to experience 'Afternoon Tea'. We had pre-booked the day before for tea at 3pm.

On arrival we were again greeted by the lovely Andrea, who told us to choose where we would like to sit. Once comfortable she came over and explained the menu to us, basically there are three options:

Cream Tea - 4.50 per person, which consists of two scones each, clotted cream, jam and a choice of tea or coffee

Full Afternoon Tea - 9.95 per person, which consists of all of the above, plus a selection of finger sandwiches (ham, smoked salmon, egg & cress, cream cheese & cucumber)slices of walnut cake and a selection of mini cream cakes

High Tea - 14.95 per person, which consists of all items on the Full Afternoon Tea menu and a glass of Prosecco

Us girls opted for High Tea. We were not disappointed the sandwiches were lovely, and there was definitely no scrimping on the fillings, presentation was again fantastic.

The scones were firm and full of fruit, the clotted cream was so thick we couldn't shake it off the spoon!!!

The mini cream cakes were delightful and consisted of:

Cream Eclairs

Chocolate cubes

Pistachio flans

Raspberry tarts

Macaroons

Initially when the cake stand and scones came I think we all thought that there did not seem much there, how wrong we were. We spent a good three hours chatting, munching and drinking tea. We even found room for two gin and tonics too.

We also enquired as to how much it would cost to hire out Dillinger's for the evening 200 pounds is a returnable deposit as long as 600 pounds is taken by the bar on the evening - given that the room holds between 60 & 70 people this seems a reasonable cost, and my friend and I are in the process of making out our invite lists!!!

The food is lovely, the atmosphere outstanding, service is excellent and the staff are wonderful, I can't praise them enough.

This place is amazing and definitely worth a visit =)

Congrats, Allie! Sorry I missed this...on the road for work last week. Thank you for dropping in on the mosque --- between the two reviews there was plenty of chandeliers and crystal, lol. This really sounds like a fantastic place!
