Sapphire Beach Condominium Resort Saint Thomas Reviews

Love the place Mar 24, 2010
Our family spent hours on Vrbo.com (a condo rental website) to find the perfect and budget friendly ($1200 for 9 days/8 nights) condo for our 9 day trip to paradise, aka St. Thomas! We finally chose to settle on a 1 bedroom with 3 beds - privately owned condo in the Sapphire Beach Resort. While our condo was not in the best building for a sight out of the bedroom, over in building F it was still only a 2 minute walk over to the wonderful and probably one of the better beaches we visited on St. Thomas.

The Condo:

The condo we stayed at was very well taken care of and had a functioning kitchen which we used to buy groceries from a Sam's Club like warehouse store,Cost U Less, for groceries for 9 days. We didn't even need air conditioning because there was an amazing breeze 24/7 that came in right from the porch into the whole condo. The owner we rented from provided us with beach/pool floatables, soap, shampoo, some snorkeling flippers, tons of towels and bedding for the bed, pullout bed and futon, and many tips on places to eat as well! She was very helpful. The condo was cozy enough for our family of 4; Mother and 3 children: 19 year old (me), 5 year old, and a 2 month old baby and provided a nice place for us to sleep in, or sit back and enjoy the breeze as we watched some TV before heading to bed. The only cons were that we did have a small ant problem if anything was left out for a little while... an army of small ants would come and take over the floor where a crumb fell!!! The other thing that was bad was the wireless connection; however, that could have also been the laptop's fault as well (since we went through vrbo, a privately owned condo, we didn't receive complementary internet and instead had to pay $30 for a week of internet use). The condo isn't luxurious..and won't be like many upper 4 or 5 star hotels that we have right in the Continental US, but it is cozy and is comfortable.

The Beach:

The water and the beach are amazing. The water is crystal clear blue and there is good snorkeling right off the beach. The beach was crowded a few times that we went; however, it was never too crowded to be uncomfortable. While snorkeling I ran into cuttlefish, many schools of fish, and a stingray at Sapphire Beach. The beach stretches from Sapphire Resort down to the other resort, Crystal Cove which is right next to Sapphire (they share the same beach). There is also a dive shop where you can rent snorkeling gear and such and a marina right next to the beach, near Building F where you can go on tours to BVI, snorkeling, St. John, Fishing, jet skis, etc...

Food:

The grill at Sapphire Beach which is open I believe from 11 to 4, so basically for lunch served a few tropical beverages like Pina Coladas & Daiquris (yes...the drinking age is 18 here..so it is nice for those older teens who aren't quite 21 yet) It serves typical lunch food like hamburgers, hot dogs, and grilled mahi mahi all with fries... etc! However, there are PLENTY OF RESTAURANTS nearby in red Hook that you can visit to eat at as well. We ate a Off the Hook, Molly Molones, Latitude 18 and a few other places that I had forgotten. Off the Hook probably had the best food, but Latitude 18 had the best entertainment and local and safe feeling. I would definitely recommend visiting latitude 18 for dinner, drinks, & entertainment.

Recommendations and Tips that made our Vacation better!

-If you can bring your own snorkeling stuff, because you will probably want to snorkel very often.

-RENT A CAR and get out of the resort..the island is full of amazing beaches...and getting use to their driving on the left and the hills does not take too long!!!!!!!!!! Visit other beaches

-Visit St. John...we brought out car it made it 10X better for us..we visited 4 beaches in 1 day trip to St. John and visited the opposite side of the island...the view down into Coral Bay is beautiful.

-The sunset @ Paradise Point is beautiful...overlooking Charlotte Amalie...Weds nights has entertainment.

-Pick up the magazine and see what entertainment - music/dancing/etc.. is going on on the island.

-If the forecast says Scattered Showers...don't worry too much because usually it means it is going to sprinkle for like 10 minutes or less and may be a bit cloudy here and there

-Just relax and enjoy the amazing weather.

I'm not one to usually want to visit the same place more than once, since there are many amazing places to visit in the world that I have yet to see, but I would definitely love to come back to the US Virgin Islands one day! I hope this review has helped you get an idea of the Resort. Enjoy :)
