The people of Santo Domingo are proud of their heritage. This Spanish speaking town is one of the major cities in the Dominican Republic. Early history abounds here dating back to Christopher Columbus are his adventures.

Once you land at the airport, the drive into Santo Domingo follows a very beautiful rocky shoreline. There are two distinct areas - the old city and the newer areas. Los Tres Ojos, meaning the Three Eyes, has in spite of its name four ponds. The first pond is of a perfect aquamarine tone, the second is the smallest and its water is sulfurous. (Written on Sept. 28 at 2:00am) Twelve hours ago, two men were shot outside of my apartment building. No, no, avid reader, do not fret; I was unharmed. (In fact; I was playing my wii at the time of the incident. I heard the gun shots from my apartment and thought it was some stupid person setting off fireworks again.) Getting off a cruise ship is my other least favorite part of the vacation.  You need to be out of your cabin and wait for your turn to leave the ship.  We had a good breakfast in the Windjammer buffet and said our last goodbyes to the Legend.   We were off the ship at 9:00 a.m. and our flight wasn’t until after 4:00 p.m.  We had 3 choices at this time. 1.      Go straight to the airport and wait for 7 hours (BLECH – okay, so that’s not rea…

Our flight from Santo Domingo was late in the afternoon, so our group decided to do the ship's tour of the city.  By taking this tour, we not only got to see some sights, but also transfers to the airport, and early disembarkation from the ship.  Around 9:00 am, we met in the ship's theater and traveled as a group off the ship, claimed our luggage, and boarded buses for the tour.  For the first part of the tour, our guide along with the bus driver who drove us&nb…
