Los Tres Ojos, meaning the Three Eyes, has in spite of its name four ponds. The first pond is of a perfect aquamarine tone, the second is the smallest and its water is sulfurous. The third, and biggest, is fresh water and has strong undercurrents. The most beautiful pond is the fourth pond which resembles the crater of a sleeping volcano. It is a cenote, which means the cave ceiling has collapsed and so the lake is now at the bottom of a shaft with vertical walls and sun is shining …

(Written on Sept. 28 at 2:00am)
Twelve hours ago, two men were shot outside of my apartment building. No, no, avid reader, do not fret; I was unharmed. (In fact; I was playing my wii at the time of the incident. I heard the gun shots from my apartment and thought it was some stupid person setting off fireworks again.) The stupid guys were trying to steel the purse off of one of the girls in our apartment (the girl who lives in the apartment beneath me, to be exact--one of my coworkers). One …

Getting off a cruise ship is my other least favorite part of the vacation. You need to be out of your cabin and wait for your turn to leave the ship. We had a good breakfast in the Windjammer buffet and said our last goodbyes to the Legend.
We were off the ship at 9:00 a.m. and our flight wasn’t until after 4:00 p.m. We had 3 choices at this time.
1. Go straight to the airport and wait for 7 hours (BLECH – okay, so that’s not rea…

Our flight from Santo Domingo was late in the afternoon, so our group decided to do the ship's tour of the city. By taking this tour, we not only got to see some sights, but also transfers to the airport, and early disembarkation from the ship. Around 9:00 am, we met in the ship's theater and traveled as a group off the ship, claimed our luggage, and boarded buses for the tour. For the first part of the tour, our guide along with the bus driver who drove us&nb…

2007 Global Health Education Forum gave me the chance to spend a week in a beautiful nation with a few good friends. We presented a poster from our work in Buenos Aires in 2006.

For my birthday my mom decided to give me a very nice gift. She paid for my best friend to visit me from Las Vegas and spend the weekend with me. She had never come here before so >I was very exited to show her around. She came Friday the 18 and left Tuesday the 22. It was only 4 days but we had too much fun! Hope you enjoy the pictures...I will be putting more after she e-mails me the rest!

One of my great impressions of the DR is that most everyone seemed to be quite happy with life. Lots of big smiles from people and laughter could be heard around every corner (as well as the shuffling and clickity-clacking of domino tiles). I've never seen a place with so many locals just.. hangin out! Its what they do best it seems. Every corner, friends gather and chat. I very much enjoyed Zona Colonial. the little streets are fun to explore by day, and there are many shops and cafes to pop…
