Santa Maria della Vittoria Rome Reviews
Santa Maria della Vittoria Dec 27, 2011
7 December 1598 birth of Gian Lorenzo Bernini
Fact about Bernini: ”He was born in Naples but all of his main works were made in Rome. He was a rival of his two contemporary artists Borromini and Cortona - but he managed to be the favorite of the popes - and hence got most of the really important commissions during this period.”
This is yet another of the many churches of Rome - you might walk by it because you think this is just another average church in Rome - but if you do go in you will get to see one of the best churches decorated by Bernini and his apprentices’. The church is located close by another interesting church the Santa Maria degli Angeli between the centre of the city and the central station. Hence you might be able to get there easily if you are walking by going to or from the centre.
The church isn’t particularly big but inside it is lavishly decorated in baroc style from the 17th century. There are lots and lots of statues inside. Many small angel statue and saints on either side of the main alter.
