Simple! Apr 07, 2011
Located right next door to the Scaligeri tombs, this must be the most famous church in Verona as it was the private church of the powerful Scala family which were around in the fourteenth century. There is a wonderful contrast between the high and ornate style of the tombs versus the striking simplicity of the church interior. The walls are pretty much threadbare and apart from a few nice candles that were lit up, there really was nothing to see here in the way of pretty chapels, great frescoes or striking sculptures. Instead the simple columns, austere arches and sturdy brick work are all that’s there. Have a quick look, then pop back out to admire the tombs next door!
