My Santa Barbara experience lasted for about two and a half days. I swam next to a sea lion. Not in a romantic Flipper-kind-of-way. He didn’t really give a shit (or she, but I don’t think so, because of the beard). Mr. Sea Lion just popped up every 5 minutes took some air in, and before diving again had a good look around in his snobby, neglectful and arrogant fashion. That’s what happens to aristocrats whose status is purely based on inherited tradition rather than personal achievement...

We didn't have any real plans other than a sunset cruise - but the day was so gray and sad we decided to forego the cruise and do some shopping and maybe more wine tasting. Despite having had one breakfast already, we decided to have 2nd breakfast at Rudy's Cafe - and it was a pleasant surprise! A latino flavored cafe with impeccable, efficient service. I was enticed by the swedish pancakes and bacon, and my friend had a gorgeous looking granola with fresh fruit and blueberr...

Less than one week left. Now, every
morning when I wake up, I think, “This is my last (insert day of week)
here”. And then I cry. Well, not really about the tears, but it could happen. There really isn’t one single bone in my body that wants to leave this place.
I went to Red Rock last weekend with some friendsies, and I finally have some pictures to show for it.
Red Rock is on the other side of the mountains, so it is super hot.
Think 105 degrees. But its full of these little sw...

Today was fairly exciting. I went for a walk around Galita, the small town that I'm actually in (near Santa Barbara). I met up with some local fraternity guys and they drove me around and we got something to eat. We stopped into a Mexican restaurant called Super Cuca's and I had a "Super Burrito" that was pretty Super. I was also introduced to 'horchata', a drink composed of rice milk, cinnamon, nutmeg and ice and it was delicious.
Then when I got back my friend at the Del Playa reside...

I was now in my mum's home town, visiting friends and expolring the sights for the first time on my own.The weather was perfect and my small beachside house provided amazing views for me to wake up to each morning.I took the shuttle along the waterfron each day into the city center, a great way to get around for 25 cents!Cruising down state street, a favourite of mine, taking in the culture of the area and its various dynamics..... The stores varied from small cheap thrills to expensive bouti...

I drove to Santa Barbara from San Juan Capistrano, to stay in a little motel and to enjoy the beautiful beach atmosphere. I only stayed two nights and spent my days on the beach relaxing and soaking up the sun. My nights I tried out a couple of different restaurants, my favourite was a one on the pier where I ate swordfish for the first time and drank a delicious local wine, after dinner I found a fun bar where I met a few locals listened to some great music.

OK, so after few days in L.A, I get into a car and start going up the coast. Just to get the feeling of a road trip over here in the states. I know, it's only few hours but it was nice and now I know for sure that I would like to go back one day and do a long road trip one day, just going around.
So, I had some rain and that help me staying inside the car and drive! there for the photos are not to good, as I wish them to be, but...

We headed off to Santa Barbara to see the world's largest fig tree, the beach and the Santa Barbara Mission. We did not know that the missions along the Pacific Coast were an attempt by the government of Spain and the Roman Catholic Church to thwart settlement from the north by the Russians. A walk on the pier and on the beach topped off the day. We saw seals in the harbor.

For one year, I lived in Santa Barbara, California-also known as "Paradise", as the locals say. It WAS quite beautiful. Sometimes I quite miss it. One has yearly access to great beaches and sunshine! Nicht schlect! I would recommend Santa Barbara to anyone passing through Southern Cali-it's roughly 100 miles north of Los Angeles, and it offers some cozy restaurants, hoppin' bars, laid-back friendly people, and last, but not least...sunny beaches!

Santa Barabara was our first destination on this day. We loved the adobe architecture. This should be a perfect place to live at after retirement. On the main street we found a small record store that offered used CDs for very reasonable prices. This was unknown in Germany in those days. If I remember it correctly each of us bought about 15 CDs! Afterwards we drove to the beach close to the famous pier and enjoyed a bath in the ocean. Very refreshing. After that my cousin sunbathed whereas I w...

Winter quarter 2008 - doing a clinical in Monterey, California - a whole new place to explore! The pictures from Carmel Highlands are at Point Lobos State Preserve. Beautiful forest. Awesome seaside with crashing waves. I even saw a whale blowing air out about a mile off shore.
