Nice place for families Mar 12, 2011
The Santa Barbara zoo is a great place for familes. The zoo is cheap, clean, and the perfect place to burn time. Its not far from the typical Santa Barbara attractions, Including Stearns Warf, Santa Barbara mission, and State Street. Its one of the largest zoos between San Francisco and San Diego. If your family is stoping by the area it would be worth a visit.

Excellent Zoo right by the beach Apr 12, 2010
I rode my beach cruiser to the Santa Barbara Zoo from a friend's house whom I was visiting. There is a beautiful, scenic bike path along the beach that meets right up to the Santa Barbara Zoo.

The price of admission to get into the zoo is relatively inexpensive for the whole experience. It felt like "Botanical Garden meets the Zoo". It has gorgeous scenery with lush landscapes.

One of my favorite animals in the whole world are penguins. This is one of the best penguin (warm weather penguin) exhibits I have seen. I like the SB Zoo's penguin exhibit better than Sea World's warm weather penguin encounter! At SB Zoo you are so close to the penguins and you can observe how the zookeepers interact with the penguins. You can go somewhat 'underground' and watch them swim on top of the water. Amazing access to the penguins! I wish I was able to pet or feed one.

I also loved the Giraffe Exhibit. You are able to feed the giraffes for a small fee (approx. $4 USD). The giraffes looked healthy, which is a top concern of mine when dealing with animals in captivity. I fed the giraffe and it was one of my favorite memories from this trip.

There is not one negative aspect of the Santa Barbara Zoo. It was a great experience. I would definitely go back if I am in the Santa Barbara area again.

This is a great attraction for travelers of all ages.

Here are the admission prices I found on the zoo's website (as of April 2010):

Ticket Prices

Adults 13-59: $12

Children 2-12/Seniors 60+: $10

Children under 2: Free

Parking: $5 (free with SB Zoo Membership)
