Santa Barbara Summer Solstice Parade Oct 05, 2009
I can't say enough about this event. The Santa Barbara Summer Solstice Parade is held annually in June on the first day of summer. The next one will be on June 25-26, 2010.

They party start the eve before Solstice with live performances by a few of the chosen performers in the parade. Here you will experience a taste of what to look forward to the day of the parade with music, dance, and great food. This all takes place at Alameda park.

Then parade day they close off about a 1.5 mile stretch of State St. in downtown and it turns into a party with many beautiful costumes of vibrant colors, beautiful dance troups and amazing music performances. At the end of the parade the celebration continues in the park with live music, drum circles, dancing, foods, and craft made by local venders for sale.

The parade draw a crowd of well over 100,000 people, it is truly an awesome experience.

Four years ago I was one of those spectators, today I'm a performer. Anybody is welcome to participate for a small parade fee of $15, This fee only applies to those performing in the parade.
