Sandman Suites Vancouver on Davie Reviews
Not as Gay As You'd Think Jun 25, 2010
This hotel was another pet friendly place we chose to stay during our road trip. It was right on Davies street which anyone who has been to Vancouver knows is the heart of the gay district with rainbow flags everywhere.
I wasn't sure what to expect since my only time on that street was on a drive-by during a festival which had a lot of village people looking candidates and short shorts on dudes. Something I never wanted to see again. However, this time around it wasn't anything like that. Actually I think was very similar to Robson (more trendy shopping street) without the pretentiousness. People seemed so much more relaxed and laid back on this street which is really what I am looking for.
The one location problem we had was finding a pub that wasn't full of guys only. So for that we went to Granville Street which wasn't a far walk away.
The room was decent, but the bathroom was small. I literally had to stand over top of the toilet to close the bathroom door. The rest of the room was big and had a kitchenette and a seperate bedroom. I never get that, why don't they just take a few sq/ft out of other unused areas and put it into a bigger bathroom? Bad design I guess.
The only problem we had with the hotel was the elevators. I was on the edge of pissing myself while waiting for the elevator - it took 15 minutes. Then every time we got in you had to use your card to select your floor, but it appeared no ones cards ever worked. We always had people riding the elevators waiting for someone whose card worked and occasionally 1 out of 50 tries it would.
I would stay there again, but something as simple as fixing the elevator situation would make this hotel a much better option for more travelers.
