Great Resort & Casino with Spectacular Views! Feb 04, 2012
Like many large casinos in the USA outside of Las Vegas and Atlantic City, they are often owned by Native American Indian tribes. There are 562 federally recognized tribal governments in the United States, which act as semi-autonomous entities. Gambling is legal under US federal law, and each state is free to regulate or prohibit it, but it is only allowed commercially in 20 US states. Native American casinos and other gambling operations on Indian reservations or other tribal land in the United States is allowed, even in states where it is prohibited commercially, because these areas have tribal sovereignty, and US states have limited ability to forbid gambling there. Currently there are about 30 US states which have Native Indian casinos, comprising about 200 tribal governments. Just a bit of USA gambling background FYI.

Sandia Resort and Casino is located right off Interstate 25 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, about 10 km from the airport. The Sandia Resort and Casino is owned by the Sandia Pueblo Indians. In fact, the round part of the building is built to look like a kiva, which is part of a Native American Pueblo. The taller section of the building is the hotel. The windows on the upper part afford some spectacular views of the Sandia Mountains and the Rio Grande Valley. The Bien Shur Restaurant is located here (9th floor). Although the menu is a bit pricey, the food is excellent, service exceptional and the views wonderful. I had dinner here with a friend (for a special celebration) and can attest to the complimentary praise I offer here. I don't mind paying a bit extra for good quality, service and ambiance. Nevertheless, there are many other cheaper restaurants and bar areas in this resort to try as well in various parts of the resort.

Of course, what draws people here in large numbers is the gambling - the lights, the sounds, the smell of greed, and the feel of fortune! All the traditional gaming activities are here: Blackjack, Bingo, Craps, Poker, Roulette, and slot Machines. Lots and lots of slot machines with flashing lights and all manner of sounds. Smoking is allowed in the Casino, but there are non-smoking areas available too. It's a fun way to spend a little time and money of course, as long as you don't overdo it. The hotel rates here vary, being the most expensive in peak seasons and dropping to half the price in off peak seasons. There is also golf and a spa to enjoy too. The Sandia Resort and Casino is definitely worth a visit while in Albuquerque.

I'm sure most people come here for that, and the bars, restaurants, golf and spa's are extra things to do when taking a break from gambling. It is a hotel as well.
