Sandeman's New Europe London Tours Reviews
Entertaining and informative at a 'nice price' Oct 10, 2009
This is a firm that offers both free introductory tours and more intimate pay tours. They also offer similar tours in 13 other European/World cities. This review will be in relation to the free London Tour specifically.
The tour meets at a statue in a park next to a tube stop and is pretty easy to find. I arrived way too early and walked around the edge of the park a bit taking in the statuary, which appeared to all be war and military memorials. Bit by bit, the rest of the tourists arrived. A lot of them. There must have been over 100 people by the time that the tour was set to get started. Luckily, there were 5 tour guides. People were handed out little cards, and then broken up into groups based on the value of the value. Quickly enough the five different groups spread out a bit and the tour began.
The London free tour cover 'Royal London', passing through Royal park, attending the Changing of the Guard ceremony before moving towards the Parliament area. Taking about 2.5 hours, the tour covers a fair bit of ground and is quite informative. Although the tour is free, tips are appreciated, and I gave 5 pounds (approximately 8$, which is what most tours cost before tips anyhow.)
All in all, the free tour is a great experience and an lot of fun. While I didn't take one of their pay tours (which are more intimate and focused) in London, I took them in several other cities and was suitably impressed.
This info may change, so check the site for updates, but as of this time the tour runs everyday at 11:00 AM & 1:00 PM (only the 11AM sees the changing of the guard) and you meet by the Wellington Arch (at the HYDE PARK CORNER tube station, exit #2)
