San Simeon is perhaps best known as the home of the famous Hearst Estate built by media mogul William R. Hearst. The Hearst Castle has been deeded to the California National Parks. Tours of this decadent estate can be taken throughout the year except on major holidays. San Simeon can be found along the historic Highway 1 about a half hour north of Morro Bay. The town itself has a post office and a very small grocery store, a very few homes. The Hearst State beach next to it with a nice pier is much larger.
