San Pellegrino Quarter Viterbo Reviews
Fine medieval architecture Nov 03, 2010
The title indicates a fine example of domestic town architecture of the middle ages, rather than a fineness of the architecture as such. Some guidebooks suggest that it is the best example in all Italy - but then thereis much in the guidebooks about Viterbo that causes me to wonder whether the authors have ever been there.
Personally I can't be bothered with competition about this - and so what anyway? This quarter for me is less emotive than the village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio but I would still not have missed seeing it. If you want fine architecture as such in Viterbo, skip down to the cathedral and the Palace of the Popes.
What is remarkable about the San Pellegrino Quarter is that street architecture of the middle ages has remined virtually unchanged into the 21st century.
