San Luis Potosi Vacation Guide
The capital city of the state with the same name. It is named for both Louis IX of France and the rich mines of Potosi, Bolivia. It is located on a platuea and about 5500' above sea level. It can be hot in the summer and at time below freezing in the winter. This is a medium sized city with about 1.5 million people in 2006. The city center (el centro) is filled with old European style colonial architecture with an Aztec influence. This is a place to fall in love with food, culture, women, music, and life. There are many things to see and do around this city and the surrounding state, from desert to rain forest, and from shopping malls to villages with little to no running water and only scant technology. Do not miss the plaza de Armas with free concerts on Thursday and Sunday evenings around 8PM, the plazuela de Carmen, Teatro de la Paz, Museo nacional dela mascara, the Fonart store and the Mercado Hildalgo. There is so much you can learn from these beautiful people. Enjoy

I managed to get to San Luis Potosà again for work, and to visit friends I made last time I went. Managed to get some work done and meet a Nobel Prize winner Harold Kroto. Celebrated my birthday down there too.

I have been living in SLP for the past 6 months and have been able to see most of the city. It is filled with incredible churches all with hand carved architecture, beautiful parks and mountains that surround the city.
