San Juan del Sur Vacation Guide
San Juan del Sur is a coastal town in south western Nicaragua, approximately 25 mintues from the Costa Rican border. It is located in the Rivas department. The next largest town is Rivas, which is the capital of the departamento. San Juan is small. While fairly easy to navigate, with fairly reliable roads, when a road washes out it can be out for months. It is a sleepy coastal town with a laid back, slow paced vibe.
The town surrounds the harbour. This harbour is a picturesque, nearly perfect crescent and the waters are fairly calm. Seafood and fishing are a way of life for many of the people in this area. The Cara del Indio, a unique formation on a cliff face, is visible from certain locations along the shore line.
San Juan del Sur has seen steady growth over the last decade. This town is popular with tourists and is more 'touristy' than other places in Nicaragua.
San Juan del Sur...what an awsome place! It is a bit rustic looking in the town area but the beach is wonderful, people are very nice of course you have to look out for the "user" people. Take time to find a place to stay. We stayed at place recomended by Lonely plant which was not good but many places are so cute. I would go back to this place again.

Thursday, November 06Well today was relax on the beach day which was good because yesterday I was uncharacteristically not feeling all that well and today was even worse. The way my stomach was rumbling made downtown Baghdad look calm. We made a big breakfast at the Villa and then Bosco…

San Juan del SurSo then, San Juan, or should we say Saint John of the Sea - quite apt. I came here to learn a bit more Spanish. A week´s intensive course including food, lodging and a surfing lesson (that never materialised) costs $130 - this is about $100 cheaper than Costa Rica. Plus…

Last but not least, we spent 3 days in San Juan Del Sur. I had by far the most fun here. The people, both local and tourists, were great, leading to wonderful conversations and new friends. Although vacations are taken with the intent to enjoy leisure, they are rarely just that.&n…
