The ride back to San Jose to catch my flight was overall quiet, but funny in it's own way. My mind wandered quite a bit. I'd like to share, but I worry I can't express it well enough for you to understand. I'm going to try. We who love to travel are a funny lot... and that makes couchsurfers a funny lot since that's what we are. We take great joy not only in seeing each other, but if possible, seeing each other in groups as we did this weekend. My mind flit…

SEE ERIN'S VERSION HERE...... OMG Erin has the whole weekend planned. She knows what I like…..FRO YO, FOOD, and OUTDOORS. We planned to have a FOOD NETWORK’S GUY FIERI FOOD ADVENTURE. She did plenty of research. We were on the road, I texted Julz (mzjulz85), Jillian (jillianj), my bro, Ira and my cousin, Lee (askmrlee) that I have arrived. Lee, Julz and Ira lives in San Jose. However, Julz and Ira were at work. My called Lee to meet us at the FALAFEL’S DRIVE IN, he said he…

On the way south from San Francisco we stopped at the Winchester Mystery House. We had wanted to do a tour because neither my wife nor I hade ever been there before but my wife had taken a jolt stepping off a curb when she had not seen it there and her back was very uncomfortable so she didn’t want to do the stairs. We walked around the garden area and took a few pictures. We also took a few minutes in the Firearms Museum. Hopefully, someday we will get to go back a …

Melanie and I had been talking about my insane craving for Falafel balls all week......it hit me before I picked her up at the airport. OMG! There is a Guy Fieri place he reviewed on his show, Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives that is called Falafel's Drive in! San Jose is not that far from San Francisco so let's do it! :D
Picked her up and we headed straight for San Jose and the Falafel joint. Thanks to assistance from my friend at work, we were pointed in the right direc…

Ok, sure the title of this first entry sounds racist, it's just that except for my parents, I don't really know a lot of chinese people! Ever since high school, I've somehow been surrounded mostly by Korean and white people. I never really fit in with the chinese crowd, but this was really quite an experience. Charles took me to a holiday party in Emeryville and I witnessed everything from Guerilla Twister (where I saw headbutting employed to knock people down) to Impossible Charades where yo…

[Note: We stayed with my mother's cousin's family for the first few days of the trip down in hot and sunny San Jose. While the first few pages of this day's entry is full of family blah-blah and heart-warming observations, I will skip ahead to the moment when my surfing experience really began...the moment I found my wetsuit. My main reason for visiting SFO (besides family) was the fact that I signed up for a 4-day Billabong surf camp to learn how to surf in the ocean. I flew across the conti…

Andy and I somehow had a stop over here. We had to change planes and of course we had collected a bunch of crap at Saturday Market including my oh so necessary hanging beads which are not very easy to carry through an airport when you are running (yes literally running full force running with beads streaming behind me) from one terminal building to another. We were stressed, totally convinced that we'd be stuck in San Jose and yet we still found time to laugh hysterically and …

The last time I went to the circus, I was 8 years old, and it was the Ringling Brothers in some giant arena where my family could only afford nosebleed seets behind a giant pillar. We could barely see the middle ring of the chaotic, boominly loud three-ring circus. There was only one row of seats behind us, and it was occupied by the loudest, most stereotypically obnoxious family ever. Like, loud, shoving popcorn into their mouths, ridiculously bellowing laughter at unfunny clowns, …

The highlights of those 60 hours were our train ride back to Delhi and an all-day tour of Old & New Delhi--something we decided to do because we had the whole day to wait for our midnight flight back to the States. So, a train, bus, taxi and a few flights later.....we were home! The sight of my dad's bright blue Audi was such a joy and the reverse culture shock of driving down a freeway that had only cars, driving on the right side of the road, was almost more than we could take! Al…
