Some of you may be afraid of the homeless people that are on every other corner of San Francisco, especially near Fisherman's Wharf where all the tourists hang out. For the most part, I just ignored them and they never bothered me. I gave change to a few of the bums that actually were quite entertaining. One even busted out a trumpet and started playing Louis Armstrong classics. What was even more funny was that he threw down his hat, and just like that people started throwing change into it. It's not really something I was used to, but anyway... I found most of them to be quite harmless, but everyone has a different opinion and some people just do not like homeless people.

The main area of San Francisco to stay away from for families and children would be the "Castro" district. This area is definitely an adult part of town and I was a little uneasy about some of the people. I was offered drugs a few times, and I'm pretty sure that this is an everday thing that goes down in the Castro district.

Other than that, San Francisco is generally a safe area. You should have lots of fun. Generally, you should try to stay around the tourist areas and you will have a great time. Actually I'm planning to go up there sometime during September where it will be very nice and cool. Hopefully, I'll have fun the second time around.
