Surrounded by national parks of Mediterranean scrub and woodland. Observe the Wild Boar and Deer in the reserves.
It is the home of Cyclops and Donna Circe and well documented in Greek mythology. Climb the cliffs and look out over the brilliant placid sea atop a Saracen lookout tower.
In the summer it is the playground of the Roman elite and freediving hub. Get yourself a scuba diving qualification at the many local dive clubs.
Hop on a boat and visit the nearby islands of Ponza and Ventotene with caves accesible by boat and clear water beaches.
It is also the world capital of Mozzarella, especially Buffalo Mozzarella.
1 hour South of Rome and 1 hour North of Naples. Full of equipped camp sites in the national park. Buses and trains from Rome and Naples.
