San Diego nightlife??? May 28, 2009
It would depend on your definition of nightlife on whether or not there is a good nightlife scene in SD.

Overall I think it us pathetic at best. Dont get me wrong there are tons of places to go, the problem is they are mostly ultra lounges that also double as restaurants during the day.

There are very few clubs, there are tons of small places and bars but to me a club needs to hold at least 500 people. Even the larger "clubs" are still technically restaurants. To me a club is just that a club. They serve drinks not food. Unfortunatelly in CA they are not issuing regular liqour licenses and this is hurting the nightlife here in SD.

There are real, and rather large, clubs in LA but not here. We do have a few venues that try to do club nights like 4th & B but unless you have a superstar DJ the place only gets about 2/3rds full.

In my opinion most people that go out in SD want to be seen more than they want to have a good time. Drink prices start at $10++ for s 6oz well drink like a rum and coke.

With the economy the way it is a lot of places in SD have close and the scene is just getting worse.

Maybe she hasn't been to San Diego in awhile? The Gaslamp has sooooo many new clubs and bars. It is actually a very cosmopolitan, sophisticated neighborhood, lined with nice restaurants, upscale clothing boutiques and world-renowned night clubs. Hard Rock hotel just opened up two bars, the Ivy Hotel has a 3-story club, Red Circle was just remodeled, not to mention Thin/Onyx, Belo, On Broadway, Stingaree, Confidential and Jade Theatre, which all have the biggest names in DJs form around the world coming through. After the new owners and remodel, Red Circle is my favorite - I've seen some of my favorite DJs play in their intimate club that is super sexy and contemporary. Like she mentioned, there are sports bars if you're in to that, but I have partied everywhere from Miami to NY, San Francisco, as well as all over Europe (Florence, Rome, Barcelona, Ibiza, Madrid, Cannes, Paris, London and Athens) and San Diego is still my favorite :)

I don't have the time to go into the nightlife and the scene here, but it's getting more and more like Vegas everytime I come here. If you love Vegas, then you'll really enjoy it here. San Diego hotels are top-notch, and the nightlife is a notch above top-notch. In fact, more than a few notches above. Gaslamp Quarter is rocking, PETCO Park is huuuge, and the rest of the things to do in San Diego aren't too shabby… Buh-Bye San Diego

Later that night we got ready to go out to enjoy the nightlife. I was able to get in touch with an old friend from back home and he met us at our hotel and immediately began talking about the good ol days of going to shows(hardcore, punk) and living the good life.  The next… Good Times in SoCal
