San Colombano Abbey Bobbio Reviews
San Colombano Abbey Aug 18, 2011
The Basilica of St. Colombano was built in 1456, over the previous church built in the year 1000.
In the crypt lie the remains of St. Colombano, one of the most important Saint regard to the European evangelizing and the one who gave life to "Columban rule", a rule that, unlike that of the Benedictines, was not only devoted to work on fields and prayer, but also education and assimilation of knowledge. That's why he founded also a big library in the Abbey.
The body of St. Columban is preserved within in a marble sarcophagus on which there are carved the most salient episodes of his work.
