Samourai Brussels Reviews
Samourai Jul 17, 2009
Hidden away in a covered square on the street Rue du Fosse aux Loups not far from the Muntcentrum and the Opera you can be lucky to find the Samourai. The Samourai is an original Japanese restaurant that actually takes you as close to Tokyo as you can be, when you are as far from it as Brussels.
The restaurant is very narrow and small, which you feel as soon as you are stepping into something totally different than yo probably expected. The first thing you meet is one of the bowing and smiling Japanese waiters.
There are very few seats at ground level and you and therefore you often have to take the narrow staircase in the corner to the first floor; up there it is not more spacious but it is cozy in a Japanese way.
There are hardly any windows in the restaurant which gives it somewhat of a Metropol gloominess, which fits very well with the intimate interior and the big city atmosphere they have created; this place could easily have been host for one of the scenes in Blade Runner.
The food is amazing but also expensive, but quality cost and here you get quality. The fish is amazing, both the tuna and the salmon maki. The tuna sashimi is absolutely fresh and tender; you can almost feel the kick in your mouth. Their steak fillet is also fantastic; served with a great sauce.
It is a wonderful place to enjoy the best of Japanese cooking and it is still cheaper than paying for a ticket to Tokyo.
