Western Samoa is a place of natural beauty consisting of ten islands located just east of the international date line and south of the equator. The two main volcanic islands are Savaii and Upolu where the capital Apia is found. Savaii is the third largest Polynesian island after New Zealand and Tahiti.

Samoa gained independence from New Zealand in 1962.
This nation is well known for its rugby team Manu Samoa, its tattoos, and for being the place where author Robert Louis Stevenson spent the last part of his life.

Total population is just above 200,000. The traditional Samoan house (fale) is open with no wall, using blinds made of coconut palm during the night and in bad weather.

Boston, Massachusetts, USA -› Vina del Mar, Chile -› ...

I'm leaving this evening!!!WOW! What a semester.A reflective update will ensue as soon as I set foot in my house. (because i'm sure my parents will be exhausted from picking me up at 1am and I will still be jetlagged)My dreams have already transistioned...I am no longer dreaming about SIT students, Samoa, Fiji and USP...I am not dreaming about airpots, GHS, Drew University, and family. I can not wait to see everyone!!

Samoa

Samoa is a 4 hour flight away from New Zealand. It is one of the westernmost islands of the Pacific and consists of seven volcanic islands. The two largest are Savaii, and Upolu where its capital Apia is located. I was only able to visit those 2 main islands during a 1 week visit. Both are fantastic but Savaii was by far my favorite. After the great holiday in 2005, we decided to travel to Samoa in Oct 2006. We first stayed in the Samoan Outrigger hotel to get used the warmer weather again. We had booked a 14 day trip which would take us around both Upolu and Savaii, plus the two smaller islands - Namu'a and Manono. We explored Apia mainly on foot, and checked out the fabulous markets.
