Samiapata Overview

About 120km south west of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Samiapata is a quiet colonial town with ancient roots. It is currently in the heart of agricultural lands, but has a slowly growing tourism trade.

El Fuerte, the name of the UNESCO site on top of the monolith mountain pre-dates the Incas. It was originally built by the Chanes, but later when an accord was reached with the Incas, had a prosperous and expanding life under their rule as well.
