Amazing bungalow rooms, private beach and very affordable! Apr 08, 2014
My husband and I stayed here for Christmas in 2013. We found the hotel online through agoda.com. We chose it based on the magnificent photos posted to the website, along with its affordability over the Christmas high season - it was approx 3000 baht per night including breakfast (about $90). We stayed at the hotel for a total of 3 nights.
The hotel is located quite a distance from the main town and busy beaches and restaurants on the island, but it is the quiet location and private beach that makes it magnificent and definitely worth staying at. The hotel is accessible by speed boat (has its own pier), or if you take a ferry to the island you can get a song-tao (passenger truck) for about 100 baht per person to the hotel. From the hotel it is very easy to get to the main beaches and town - you can walk - 30minutes plus - or you can hire a motorbike from just down the road for 300 baht per 24hrs, including a full tank of gas - it will take about 5 minutes or less on a motorbike to get to the town. The restaurant at the hotel is open air, and has a wonderful sea breeze. I'm not sure what it would be like when raining however. It is also right next to the beach so of course a great view. Breakfast is average, and a mixture of Thai and Western cuisine. The hotel also has a swimming pool, with plenty of lounges, but why would you want to lay by the pool when you can lay by the beach??!! There are also lounges on a wooden deck over looking the sand and water.
Rooms are located on the hill above the beach and beyond the restaurant and pool. They are decent sized rooms with fridge, free water, comfy bed and pillows, and average bathroom. Towels looked a little old and worn, but nothing to complain about. Tv was of course Thai channels, and not many international channels, but we didn't spend much time in the room watching TV anyway. Each room has a couple of deck chairs which were great to lounge on in the warm mornings and cool afternoons. Our room also had a great view of the sea, and we got a good breeze being up on the hill.
As we stayed over Christmas, the hotel also gave us a little xmas treat on Christmas day - some chocolates and a lovely card - nothing too special, but it was a nice surprise.
You also have to leave 1000 baht cash for room key deposit - standard procedure in Thailand, and the room key is HUGE! definitely won't be losing it, unless you lose your mind along with it! We had to take the key off the key chain as it was just too bulky and big to carry around with us throughout the day.
Warning - don't leave your shoes outside over night as the island's stray dogs are notorious for chewing them up and scattering them over the grounds of the hotel - luckily this didn't happen to us, but we did see the evidence lying around from other guests in the mornings.
I would definitely stay at this hotel again, and definitely recommend it to anyone going to Samed Island!
