Huge monument surrounded by an incredible scenery Jun 19, 2011
If you visit Bolivia, Samaipata in the west side of Santa Cruz Department, is a highly recommended place. This huge rock monument lies on a mountain up to 2000 metres, surrounded by a green scenery. It´s an archaelogical site and it's included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built by the Chane culture and some centuries later the Inca empire built a city around it. The fortress itself is really big and you need at least 3 hours to visit it. You can ask for guided tours at the entrance. It´s a relaxing place. You need to take a taxi in the town of Samaipata to get there. This town is a good base to explore the area, not too crowded -fortunately-, which has some amazing trekking opportunities. From here you can go in a mid day journey to the city of Vallegrande, the area where Che Guevara was shot dead and where yau can visit the mausoleum built by the government of Cuba.
