Among the typical items like grilled meats (chicken, kebabs, etc) the specialty stands out... Maskoof: River fish slowly cooked against a wood fire. Takes a good 45 min to cook so order in advance with time to spare. Also make sure you go as a group of at least 4 hungry people as the fish sizes start from 2.5 kg upwards.

The river fish is invariably a variant of Carp. The regional names are Kattan and Bunni. These are not imported from Iraq due to safety concerns - instead these are imported from fish farms in Iran.

The pickles and eastern basil served are Iraqi specialty. Vinegar pickled mango slices served on a bed of tomato cubes (Amba hendi salad) is a must with the Maskoof. Beware the river fish has many thin Y-shaped bones but this is a totally distinct experience.

Good ambiance with several pictures and paintings on brick walls. The staff is usually quite attentive and welcoming.
