The Hills are Alive in Salzburg
posted by:

Entered Austria on the Walserberg-Autobahn. Drove into Salzburg and had Wienerschitzel and tea downtown. Looked at a few shops. Drove northeast toward Linz to see the pastures and Alps. Turned off onto a small road in Gmunden, which led south into an area called the Wolfgangsee. This area is definitely eye-candy in winter! Narrow valleys winding through steep Alpine peaks. Ice cold lakes, and frozen waterfalls glistening in the dim sunlight. Forests blend with high meadows. Yellow-painted mon…

The Hills are Alive with the Sound of, well, Music
posted by:

For those of you who are unaware, Salzburg is the place where Maria took to those hills and sung her little heart out. Possibly the one claim to fame of this lovely little city that and being the birthplace of Mozart, they really do cash in on it. Mozart chockies, Sound of Music tours etc. I actually wish I had gone on it I'm embarrassed to say. The hostel was even into it. Everday at 10:30am they would show the dear film and yes we did watch it...twice. Come on! You know you love it! …

I took the train from Geisenhausen after work. It left at 16:54 and being German and nervous about my first trip by myself in a different country (although I know the language). Well I made it and had a wonderfule time. Great little city tio visit in a couple of days. Salzburg Card is the best way to go while you are there and with everything being so close you get your money's worth.

Salzburg, Austria

On our last day in Europe we again used our Euro Train pass to go to Salzburg Austria.  I had heard of it and Alaric told me that I should go for two reasons.  First of all, we had a chance to say we've been in Austria while only staying with 90 minutes of Munich.  Second it was much different and even though it was a bit touristy, he claimed it was very much worth going.  On a funny note he admitted that he and his friend had taken the train there after work in Munich one…

A beautiful afternoon in Salzburg - I had heard it was pretty, but the train ride over from Munich to Salzburg was breathtaking - rolling green meadows dotted (or sometimes completely carpeted) in brilliant yellow flowers, with towering dark mountains in the background capped with whiter than white snow. Oh, and blue blue sky with fluffy white clouds. It almost makes you want to break into song! Pulling into Salzburg, I at first didn't think much of it until we were crossing the river and I …

Back in Austria, it was time to head out on the final leg of our trip....but we made one final pit-stop on the way in Salzburg: The City of Music (and the Sound of Music). From the moment we stepped off the train in Salzburg, I already loved it 10,000 times more than Vienna. Fabulous old town tucked right into the Alps...great Old Europe charm to it. Amazing fortress towering over the city. Gah! Loved. It! I would go back to Salzburg in a heartbeat. I need to spend more time there somed…

Toured the downtown in Salzburg today.  Went to Mozarts house, its a museum today.  He was born in 1756 and died in 1791.  Ya thats only 35.  Morzart has always been my favorite.  He´s the most famous for a reason, I guess.  They have lots of shopping right in the area of the museum.

This is something new to me---writing about my experiences. It will probably bore even the most enthusiastic person on the planet to sleep! It has been just over a year since my journey, and now I feel compelled to write about it.Last year I stopped making excuses why I should not Travel,as I realized that left to my own devices,I would wake up some day too old and feeble to make a trip like I wanted to.I decided I am not the type who would be content with a tour,as certain attractions t…
