I Have Confidence (Ill find my way round Salzburg and spend lots on Christmas Stuff!)
posted by:

Our last day in Salzburg was spent packing, doing a bit more shopping, doing a bit more eating and enjoying a horse and carriage ride! I was really sad to be leaving Salzburg, and hope to be back soon, perhaps in a summer with Mark? I took my top back to Schops and changed it, but got side tracked into H&M and came away with a jumper, a jacket and two tops, which made packing all the more difficult! I had to put everything breakable into my backpack and slightly sturdier but still fragil...

For those interested in Opera, theatre and arts on stage, the Salzburger Festival (Salzburger Festspiele) might be a concept. For those who just think ????, this is a festival of the finest arts... not only on stage, but because of the large amount of artists and people interested in arts, the galleries and museums also produce an extraordinary amount of exhibitions. These people usually have a lot of money to spend as well and sometimes just come to be seen and mentioned in the news. Yes, b ...

I can't really say enough about how lovely Salzburg is... it's the kind of European destination you picture in your head when you think of the quaint, picturesque representations you may have seen on biscuit tins when you were young. Having been to Vienna, I had no idea that Salzburg would be so different... traditional looking, pretty and very welcoming. OK, so I admit that I also loved that fact that everywhere we went it was like stepping into a scene from The Sound of Music and that my ...

Looking for Mozart in Salzburg
posted by:
Sep 23, 2005
Our first night was spent at the gorgeous Hotel Bristol, of which you can read all of the gorgeous details in the review...centrally located across the way from Mozart's house, and within walking distance of the Mirabel gardens and palace, as well as the beautiful city of Salzburg, located across the river. We started our journey by visiting the Mozart Museum, filled with mementos from his life. Sheet music, harpsichords, and beautiful pianos... Being in the old part of the city, we navigat...

as my sister came home at 6am that morning we decided to explore the old town of salzburg by ourselves. the weather was great - the sun was shining but the temperature was really low. we went through the old town and then we thought we could walk up on "festung hohensalzburg". it's not an easy way up there but it was great experience and we didn't regret our decision. we spent some time on the "festung" and made pictures showing us with all our winterclothes and red noses ;). back at m...

With a sweeping aerial view, the film opens with a left-to-right camera pan through the clouds and across rocky, snow-covered mountains. The camera dips into a green, wooded valley with steep cliffs that descend into a snow-fed lake. Reflections of the hills are viewed in the mirror-like images on the water's surface. As the camera moves over the European landscape and village, it discovers an open, green area nestled between the peaks. It moves closer and zooms into the gree...

Well what can I say about this beautiful, peaceful place. Full of character and history.I've been to Salzburg twice in the past 3 years and have enjoyed every moment being there. The people are very friendly, the atmosphere is calm and people enjoy life rather than working 9-5! Plenty of history to explore from Mozarts birth place to his other house on the other side of the river. Being a pianist and big admirer of his music I just had to go. Take the cable car up to the fortress and look ove...

I love sleeping on trains!  It was so great to stretch out and to fall asleep to the rocking of the train; I felt like a baby in a cradle.  It also felt good to get a full night's sleep. We got up an hour before arriving in Munich and had breakfast in our room.  How pleasant! We had about 10 minutes in Munich, and since our trains were directly across the platform from each other, there wasn't time to even step outside to see the town.  I'm pretty bummed about that. ...

The Sound of Music Tour
posted by:
Oct 30, 2007 - Nov 02, 2007
On Thursday, we took a two hour train ride to Salzburg, where we took a Sound of Music Tour. Almost everything in Salzburg was closed due to a holiday. One of the locals told me that it was best described in English as All Saints day. So we booked the tour and walked around a little to sight see some. I loved taking the tour. It was nice to see the places of where actual events took place and to hear about little details of the movie. We were told that Christopher Plummer,...

The next morning my two new friends and I headed up the path leading to Festung Hohensalzburg, the castle overlooking Salzburg.  It sits at the highest point in the city, which offers a perfect defense from invaders...but what happens when the city gets attacked?  Anyway, we walked up the path leading to the castle, got our tickets, and went inside.  The castle was very impressive and very imposing on the hill, and it offered some amazing views of the entire area, including Sal...

The big day had arrived - it was time to go on the Sound of Music Tour and Bec was very excited.  As we didn't get to see the movie last night Bec was a bit worried she'd be rusty when it came to singing some of the songs, but she knew most of them so it was going to be ok.  We took the morning tour as we weren't sure how much of the town it covered and left the afternoon to check out the rest of the place. The tour takes in the white gazebo, the grounds and lake behind the house in ...

Salzburg is well known not only for its beauty, arts and history but also for their most famous son - one world's most beloved composers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Being the second time in Salzburg, I was over with the excitment of visiting Mozart's birthplace or tasting the Mozartkudeln. On our one day stopover to our next destination Hallstatt, we went to visit the Fortress Hohensalzburg built in 1077 by Archbishop Gebhard which is considered as the largest and fully preserved fortress in ce...

I shot this photo from the castle up on the hill in Salzburg, and didn’t realize at the time that I was walking in exactly the same place about an hour later, still taking photos. There really isn’t that much to do in this town in the morning. A few minutes later I heard a thudding behind me, so of course I turned to see what was causing it, and was tremendously surprised by what I saw: a tall blonde was jogging toward me, still some distance away but closing in a hurry. Luckily I didnâ€...
