Certainly not number one steakhouse in Banff Jan 31, 2016
N51°10.671' W115°34.345' Lonely Planet writers found polished dining rooms abounds with rustic elegance during their visit and concluded that Saltlik could be number one in a town not short on steak restaurants. Saltlik gave us first an impression of a brewpub with loud music, big flat televisions everywhere and pub interior. Eating on a barstool? Not really! Where was the rustic elegance in polished dining rooms? Answer: the second floor.

After the staircase in August 2015, we entered a better-suited dining scene with dining tables with the slogan “Live it, love it, lik it”. Unfortunately, the benches were too low like eating at a table at the age of 10. From our low table position, the Skuna Bay Salmon Salad with herb rubbed salmon, sweet roasted red & yellow beets, fingerling potatoes, boiled egg, spring mix with lemon Dijon vinaigrette and the 8 oz. C.A.B. Chipotle prime sirloin steak, with kick-ass chipotle BBQ sauce and lobster mashed potatoes tasted good. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing special. The same was true for the crème brûlée as dessert. The red Mission Hill Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Okanagan BC wine was a good combination with the steak and salmon.

We did not approve of the Lonely Planet opinion that Saltlik could be number one in Banff. The food did not excite our taste buds, the brewpub downstairs was no invitation to restaurant guests and the wrong position at the tables was a basic error.
