After hearing about tubing down the Salt River, two friends and I decided to give it a try. Salt River Tubing is located in Tonto National Forest (northeast Mesa), about a 30 minute drive from Scottsdale. Upon arriving, you pay $14/person for a tube rental and shuttle bus service for the day. You can also rent extra tubes to carry your cooler full of snacks and drinks. While alcohol is allowed, glass is not so make sure you pack cans.

The bus takes drops you off up river where you and your friends wade into the water to start your journey. With multiple stops downriver, you have the option of floating for up to 5 hours. While the company doesn't recommend you tie tubes together (for safety reasons), it seemed like the majority of people were doing this... I'm not sure if they were trying not to separate from each other or trying not to separate from their beer cooler, probably the latter.

The scenery is amazing and everyone is very friendly. It a relaxed party atmosphere with a wide variety of people, from small family outings to big groups of ASU students and everything inbetween. It is money well spent and a must for anyone visiting the Phoenix area. Don't forget to bring some sunscreen!
