We studying in Salamanca at Salminter, a Spanish language school. The class sizes were ideal (about 8 to 10) and the teachers did a good job instructing us. I learned more of the fine points of the language here than I did in the US (although I'm afraid I've forgotten them). We also discussed culture, talking about Gaudi (which was great preparation for the trip to Barcelona), Dali, the Franco regime, the transition to democracy, and the 3/11 attacks. While the professors tended to be more on the left side of the idealogical spectrum than us, our differences certainly provided an incentive for us to speak our minds (it can be difficult to argue politics in your second language!). We also took field trips around Salamanca with another of the professors, seeing the Cathedral, the University and other sights. While we were disappointed than we weren't attending the University at first, Salminter was a good learning experience and those of us who weren't hungover enjoyed it.
