Classic cars at a midwest castle May 29, 2008
The Salisbury Automobile Classic is a must see in Des Moines. If you're around in September you've got to go check it out. It's probably the most unique car show I've been to. There are around 100 classic and antique cars lined up in the gardens of this historic mansion, just a beautiful setting. Plus, there's free tours of the house while you're there and the house is amazing. In 2007 they brought in 3 cars from the GM Heritage Collection. One was the rare 1938 Buick Y-Job, the world's first concept car, a rare 1951 LeSabre concept car and a rare 1953 Cadillac LeMans concept car! Another was the GM Futurliner bus, this thing was crazy. It was driven around in GM's Parade of Progress in the 40's and 50's. It'll be in it's 9th year in 2008, they really do a great job of putting this on every year, it's just another fun thing to do in Des Moines for people who want to get out and see some beautiful cars and a beautiful historic house. Admission was/is $15 but I had a $5 off coupon, so ten bucks and I had a great time! I think kids 12 and under got in free, so a great family activity that won't break your wallet!
