Salem Fun Aug 08, 2012
My mother and I took a trip to Salem from Michigan and we had a GREAT time. You don't hear much about people going to Salem, but it was so much fun! We met a woman online and decided to stay with her because she had a spare bedroom - we were weary of course because we met her online but she was way better than staying at a hotel. First, she lived in a 3 story home that was pretty old and we were on the top floor. She was so nice and she drove us around town to point stuff out to us and she made us breakfast each morning. We also went to her church with her which was great. It was a Spiritualist church with mediums and psychics galore. We had a lovely time and the people were so kind.

In town we went to the House of Seven Gables which was a bit expensive but the house was neat. The staircase was so great. We also trekked around to find Chestnut St. which I was hoping to find and OMG did I fall in love and nearly claim it my own. The homes are super old, some have plaques, the side walk is made of bricks, and the houses are so gorgeous - many huge and different colored. We also stopped by the Old Burying Point Cemetary which was my main goal. It was gorgeous and the Salem Memorial Benches were also beautiful. We had a lot of fun and will return. The woman we stayed with, hopefully will still be there when we go back. She was much nicer than any hotel I've stayed at. Also, the restaurants were plentiful and the Pickering Wharf was neat.

Wonderful Historic Salem May 30, 2010
There are so many things to see in Salem that I decided to make a listing of them.

1. The House of Seven Gables

2. The Witch Dungeon Museum

3. Salem’s National Maritime Site

4. Burying Point, the oldest cemetery in Salem

5. Chestnut Street

6. The Corwin House/Witch House

7. Dracula’s Castle

8. The Schooner Fame of Salem

9. Pioneer Village, Forest River Park

10. Hamilton Hall

11. Nathaniel Bowditch House

12. New England Pirate Museum

13. Old Town Hall

14. Phillips House

15. Pickering House

16. Salem Witch Museum

Some of these you can take in by driving, others need time to walk. Some charge an entry fee and a few are free. I am sure that there are many more things to see and do here in Salem, such as plays, tours, and other museums dedicated to the idea of witches.

On our tour of the city, we did most of it by car and enjoyed it quite a bit.

Salem was totally awesome. I highly recommend day trip no matter what time of the year. I went with a friend Amanda who lives in Massachusetts. There are many things to do for free. Derby Wharf to Derby Light, Old Burying Point Cemetery (Charter Street). The House of the Seven Gables, Museums are all over the place. Extremely reasonable on price to see everything. The people are just fantastic, friendly and epically great with showing which way to go for anything you want to see.

The best was a little witchcraft shop that has a yellow lab. The owner is just too sweet. (Sadly I can not remember the name of the shop)
