Salar de Uyuni Vacation Guide
Salar de Uyuni is located in the high Andes of Bolivia. It’s the biggest salt flat in the world at 11.000 sq km, which is ¼ of the Netherlands. Some parts of the former lake are covered with a small layer of water. To cross the flat you need a 4WD and a guide. Tours can be arranged in San Pedro de Atacama in Chile or in Uyuni. To get from San Pedro de Atacama to Uyuni or vv, it takes 3 days.
In the middle of the flat is an ‘island’ which even inhabits some lizards. You can also stay for a night on the flat in Hotel de Sal, which is built completely out of salt.
