Sala Bai Hotel

This is a hotel - school run by Agir pour Camboge, a French NGO that assists Khmer young people by training them for jobs in the tourist industry. The hotel itself is a former regional jail that has been renovated into luxury tourist accommodation. We booked it on the internet and confirmed with no problems. Be sure you have the address with you at the airport because our taxi driver didn't know it by name and it is located 1 street behind the main route to the temples. We stayed in a suite that covered the whole top floor of the hotel (at that time -Feb 2004 it cost USD $25.00 per night!!!) including bedroom, sitting room and bathroom with breakfast served in our room. Service was perfect. Staff helped us arrange a driver/guide for the temple site and for a boat trip to Battambang. If I were to suggest one improvement it would be to increase lighting at night because the hotel is located on a dark residential street off the main route.
