Saint-Remy-de-Provence Overview

St.-Remy-de-Provence is a good central base for visiting the Luberon. It's attractive, has all the amenities, a lovely Old Town, the Roman archeological site of Glanum and the Van Gogh Asylum of St. Paul de Mausole at the edge of town along with a transhumance in spring and fall that is a genuine French peasant experience as they drive the animals from summer to winter grazing. Les Baux is nearby and there are excellent roads to Arles, Aix, Avignon, and all the lovely villages of the Luberon range.

Must-see sights include: Les-Baux-de-Provence, Arles, the Camargue, the Abbey of Montmajour, Glanum, Aix, Avignon, the Abbey of Silvacane, the Pont du Gard, villages of Lourmarin, Roussillon and its ochre quarries, Bonnieux, Gordes, Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, L'Isle-sur-Sorgue, Menerbes, Oppede-le-Vieux, Manosque and a bit further east Moustiers-Ste.-Marie.
